OCTOBER 7th: THREE YEARS LATER
Exactly three years ago, the Zionist entity began its most devastating assault on Gaza since the Nakba. We watched it live on our screens as the genocide on Palestine escalated. We watched as governments came to the aid of the Zionist entity and backed their claims of “self-defense.” We watched as mainstream media called it nothing more than a conflict. We watched as people we once called friends choose comfort over our people's cries.
But we were through watching. We acted. Alongside our comrades across the globe, we put our bodies and livelihoods on the line to make it clear that we were not going to sit idly by and let our people suffer in silence. We were doxxed, surveilled, arrested, thrown in jail, and slandered as terrorists for saying out loud the truth of our eyes.
And still, every loss we took here was nothing next to what our people endured there.
The grief is still unbearable. We lost universes in people we’ve come to know and adore. Refaat Alareer. Khaled Nabhan. Anas Al-Sharif. And so many more. We witnessed whole families wiped from the registry in a single night.
We remember them in every waking moment, and in every act we do.
These past three years have taught us what no textbook would. We learned that the governments of the West will starve a people and call it foreign policy. We learned that the institutions we were told to trust will protect their donors before they protect children. We learned that city councils would sooner sell their souls than stand with Palestinian families. We learned exactly who stood with us in our moments of need, and who sold us out to keep their profits.
And we learned from Gaza and its steadfast people. A people bombed and forcibly displaced over and over have refused to kneel to Zionism and Imperialism.
We live in the belly of the beast, this fracturing empire, that funds this genocide before anything else. Our own tax dollars are used to murder our own people. This is not lost on us. But that only means we have a greater responsibility and a greater urgency to act.
So despite everything, we will not stop. We will continue to organize in every city, across campuses, in workplaces, and in our own homes. We will continue to boycott those who would rather kill our people for profit. We will continue to support the people on the ground who are helping to rebuild Gaza in the midst of this genocide. We will continue.
Three years later, Palestine is still here. Its people are still here. We are still here. And we will remain until the hour of liberation, when the names of the martyrs we carry in our hearts and on our tongues are spoken in a free Palestine.
Glory to our martyrs, and long live a free and liberated Palestine.
